A fifth wheel trailer has great storage compared to most traditional travel trailers (bumper pull). The caveat to this is a fifth wheel trailer hitch consumes most of the truck bed particularly on travel day. Having a traditional travel trailer allows me to use my entire truck bed for storage. My first upgrade for my RV was actually an upgrade to the truck. I installed a Trifecta 2.0 Truck Bed Cover which provides weather proofing as well as a mild amount of security. My tri-fold bed cover is a soft cover so the security is limited... Out of sight out of mind. The cover cannot be opened when the tailgate is locked. That's good. I suppose the difference between the soft cover and the hard cover, aside from the cost, is one requires a knife to breach while the other needs a crowbar. Both allow you to greatly expand your storage for traveling. Always be aware of your truck's payload capacity. Anything you add to your truck bed garage reduces your remaining payload capacity. The CAT scale is your friend... Use it.
