Taos New Mexico

Located in the high desert of northern New Mexico, Taos is a place of breathtaking scenery and one of the oldest towns in the United States where history and stunning views come together. Taos Pueblo, a National Historic Landmark, has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans for over a 1,000 years. In the early 17th century, Spanish settlers arrived in the area, and Anglo settlers and artists arrived in the early 20th century, making Taos the unique cultural and artistic hub it is today. With a population of about 6,000 residents Taos is small but it has become a tourist destination with over 1.2 million visitors annually. The town has a wealth of authentic Mexican restaurants, traditional New Mexican cuisine, several Italian Restaurants, and the typical fast food options. Taos Plaza and the surrounding blocks are a great place to spend an hour or two for all your tourist trap needs. Being a high desert destination, the weather is pleasant in the summer months with chilly nights in the shoulder seasons. Taos winters are cold with the average lows in the teens. I visited in early October during a Presidential election year and based on the yard signs, this is a "Blue No Matter Who" type of town. That notwithstanding, I found the town very pleasant and plan to return for at least a week next time.

Taos Ski Valley New Mexico

Tucked away in the rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains Taos Ski Valley is located 19 miles and over 2000 ft in elevation from Taos Plaza. I visited in mid October just after The Taos Bike Park closed for the summer season. The winter ski season is estimated to start Nov 27 2024. There wasn't much going on and only a few businesses in the village were open which is just fine with me. This place is stunning with the autumn foliage and I would love to visit and ski after the snow flies. Taos Ski Valley New Mexico receives an average of 184 inches of snow annually. Taos Ski Valley features 14 ski lifts, including one gondola and several high-speed lifts. The resort boasts 110 trails spread across over 1,294 acres of ski terrain. There are 10 plus restaurants in and around the resort, ranging from cafes to more upscale fine dining options. I saw four hotels in the village and there are a number private vacation rentals surrounding the village. There is no shortage of ski rentals in the village as well. All in all, this seems like a first rate smaller ski resort in a beautiful area of the country.

Denver Colorado

I've always been an Auburn fan and having never had a favorite NFL team, I've adopted the Denver Broncos now after the team drafted Bo Nix in the first round this year. Part of my planning for this trip was to be in Denver on Oct. 6th when the Raiders came to town. Unfortunately, getting into the game wasn't possible but I did drive around Mile High Stadium several hours before the game as everyone gathered to tailgate. In fact, with 2 of my 3 days in Denver being consumed by watching College and NFL football, I didn't get to see or do much in Denver. I did get to see a few of sites in the city but I want to return next fall for a longer stay. I did drive up to Red Rocks but there was an event that morning and I had no luck finding parking within a mile for my large truck. I did notice there is construction everywhere so Denver seems to be growing rapidly. I'll be Back!

Taos RV Park
Taos, New Mexico

I booked 3 nights at Taos RV Park on-line. The website was very well designed and sent several notifications on the conformation and site info. Site 13 was a full hookup back-in with plenty of room. The park is less than 2 miles from Taos Plaza and there is a micro Walmart 1 mile from the park. There is a small fenced dog park which Barron used twice daily. There are bathhouses that I didn't use. I paid $43 per night which I felt was reasonable all things considered. When I return I think Taos RV Park is the place to be with the 7th night free on weekly stays.

Applewood RV Resort
Denver, Colorado

The fact that Rjourney refers to Applewood as an "RV Resort" is a huge stretch. To the human eye, Applewood is much more like a Storage Yard with full hookups. I spent 3 nights here and at $81 per night, with my Good Sam discount, this was the most expensive per night RV park for me this trip. When I booked I thought, it's an "RV Resort" so I'll treat myself. It's not a treat, not a "Resort", it's a dump that is at least close to the Denver city center. That's really the only positive thing I can say. RV lots are VERY close together with very little room for tow vehicles leaving trucks lined up along the fence line. Not a blade of grass on the property, gravel everything. My advice, look elsewhere.
